Bio

Dr. Frank Manion, is Chief Informatics Officer at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center, and Director of Cancer Informatics. In this role he serves as the senior biomedical informatics strategist, and has responsibility for clinical informatics, bioinformatics, and administrative computing functions.

For 25 years prior to joining the University of Michigan, Dr. Manion was the chief technology Officer for the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia where he developed the bioinformatics shared facility, and worked with teams developing institutional data warehouses, installed modern medical record systems, and developed the campus cyberinfrastructure. Dr. Manion has played an active role in the caBIG Strategic Planning and Architecture Workspaces, and was the principal investigator for the caBIG security program.

Current initiatives his team is working on include a major analysis of biobanking software needs for the cancer center, the development of a cancer center data warehouse and knowledge management platform, and preparation for installation of the Epic Beacon oncology platform. He is also co-leading an initiative to develop a translational research information architecture strategy for the University of Michigan Health System.
